Hi beautiful. Let us tell each other stories from our long winters. You go first.

A trillium I came across while hiking on Powell Butte in SE Portland, Oregon.

Trillium

Cynthia Lopez March 24, 2016

My long winter's story is about getting through. Finishing up one long-term and one medium-term film project (this one and another one that I'll be sharing imminently) and making plans to finish up a third verrrry long term project (this one) which has been on a long hiatus on the surface but actually bubbling with activity just underneath.

Right at the beginning of spring, on the verge of moving, I have the feeling that I am on the verge something else too. I think it is work-related. It could be a change in my process or in the stories I'm creating. The feeling is a very odd sensation in my body. It's partly a feeling of wanting to physically move in new ways (maybe this is my cue to become a professional dancer! JK!); and partly a feeling in my jaw, as if my mouth wants to speak new words.

This is not an entirely unfamiliar feeling, but it's quite rare for me. When I started making films almost 20 years ago, I had a similar bodily experience, although I was less tuned in to it. I felt like an unwitting sleeper agent that had just been activated. I went from having no conscious desire to make films (and in fact a bit of an aversion to the technology-heaviness of it) to wanting to do that, and only that, in a very short period of time.

I can't wait to see where this current feeling leads me.

I'm not moving to Rome. →
